Anne Shirley is a young orphan girl taken in by the elderly Cuthbert siblings to live in rural Prince Edward Island. She navigates her world with a whimsical perspective and grows up to be a smart young woman.
The graphics helps bring to life the idyllic colours and historic nature of late Victorian Canada which would have been lost with the chapter book format.
The pacing of the story could outrun a bullet train. The graphic novel attempts to cover too much of the series and none of the characters really gets enough time to develop properly. But, this is a far more faithful adaptation to the original story compared to another recent adaptation Anne with an E (2017). Despite the rapid pace of the plot, the characters are depicted faithfully and the atmosphere the original book had is still present.
