Free to Be...You and Me is an album that features music and stories that were sung and told by Marlo Thomas and a lengthy list of well-known actors and singers at the time.

Appropriate for children of any age, the major messages of the album are individuality, tolerance, and equality, especially rejecting gendered stereotypes and expectations.

Although this album is still delightful (with some majorly catchy songs) and has positive messages, there is no longer nearly the dearth of similarly feminist / egalitarian content now as there was then. As well, certain of the defied societal expectations are already less relevant now. That said, the majority of the content is timeless, talking about every day aspects of growing up and being supportive of one’s friends that are as relevant now as they were 50 years ago when this album was released.
