It’s been 200 years since Cinderella died and the story of her romance with prince charming has become a legend to live by. Each year a ball is held in which young girls are forced to attend to be chosen as a wife. Sophia attends the ball only to flee, beginning her epic battle to end the awful tradition once and for all.
Fans of Audrey Coulthurst’s Of Fire and Stars (2016) would enjoy this book which has similar themes of forbidden queer romance set in a fantastical land. The way that this author takes the original tale of Cinderella and twists it into something darker keeps readers interested until the very last page. One weakness that many readers have cited is that there isn’t a lot of character development in the story, something that would have made it a more enjoyable read. Overall, readers would find the concept of this story interesting but may wish for just a bit more from the story.
