Let me set the scene: Ireland. Late 1990s. The near end of The Troubles. (An almost entirely Girls Only) Catholic School. A group of girlfriends (and maybe one boy). Trouble obviously ensues. So is the television series Derry Girls, in which we follow the lives of a group of girls (and the one English cousin, James) during times of civil unrest in Northern Ireland.
Funny, witty, shocking, Derry Girls is a brilliant comedy that balances quick witted humour with social commentary and, for the non-Irish viewer, a glimpse into Irish history and culture. An easy laugh, and an added bonus is that the episodes are only twenty minutes long (meaning you can watch four in a row, right?).
