Five Feet Apart tells the story of two teens who fall in love but can never be closer than five feet apart. Stella and Will both live with Cystic Fibrosis, so they risk death from bacterial cross-infection if they get too close to each other.
The format of this novel is consistent with other romance novels in the “sick lit” genre where two teens fall in love, but their romance is thwarted by illness or death. Despite being formulaic, it is an enjoyable and touching read that is geared towards young women. It is the perfect novel for teens who like romance or stories about star-crossed lovers.
