On My Block tells the story of a group of four friends living in south central Los Angeles. They deal with love, friendship and heartbreak alongside racial inequality, class inequality, and gang violence in their community. Despite coping with family members who are ex-convicts and drug addicts, with mental health issues, and even with money laundering mysteries, their love for one another prevails.
Surprisingly, the story remains uplifting, and the characters are often hilarious. With four seasons released as of 2023, we have seen the characters come of age through all four years of high school. The characters are played by actual teenagers, something remarkably uncommon, and the way they speak and interact with one another feels deeply realistic and relatable to anyone who is or has ever been a teen.
