In this issue centered around cult classic film The Return of The Living Dead (O'Bannon, 1985), Screem magazine offers horror cinephiles an in-depth look into the making of the movie while also bringing attention to some forgotten horror gems. Given the tendency of horror movies to skew more adult, Screem occasionally covers subjects in films that would not be appropriate for the younger crowd, making the ideal audience for this publication teenagers at least 15 years old. That being said, when compared with other horror magazines, Screem places a larger emphasis on analysis and features longer articles with fewer images, making it a safer choice for teens interested in behind-the-scenes facts of their favourite scary movies. Unfortunately, however, the large walls of text and small print can be difficult to read. Potential trigger warnings for this magazine would vary depending upon the issue but, in general, would include violence, death, references to sex, and, in this particular issue, zombies.
As a horror-obsessed teenager, I would have loved to have resources such as magazines and podcasts devoted entirely to dissecting the genre and it is out of this desire to provide for my fellow horror fans that this magazine finds itself recommended.
