Stranger Things is set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, in the 1980s. The series follows a group of children who begin to experience strange, supernatural events. These events are the result of an alternate dimension known as the "Upside Down," which was opened during experiments on children with supernatural abilities. The children must confront terrifying monsters to save their town. 

Rated TV-14, the show is appropriate for older teens and adults. Stranger Things is known for its exploration of relationships between complex characters. It is a coming-of-age story that explores themes of fatherhood, motherhood, self-acceptance, friendship, redemption, and the fight between good and evil. The first few seasons are highly regarded, though some viewers feel that the writing quality has declined in later seasons.
