Evan and Seth, best friends since childhood, are going to separate colleges and dealing with it differently. Seth plays it cool and is excited to reinvent themselves, starting with an upcoming party. After offering to buy alcohol for the party in attempts to seem cool, Evan, Seth, and their nerdiest friend Fogel, start by trying to get fake IDs. After a night of many firsts, some good and some super bad, the boys bond over a night they will always remember despite going separate ways.
Superbad is a movie about everything teens think of being cool, but only from the male perspective. At times, the movie can objectify women; the more recent Booksmart (Wilde, 2019) offers many parallels and highlights the experiences of two young women on their last night out before college. Ultimately, Superbad captures many of the awkward and stressful moments of the high school experience, while being an ode to true friendships.
