Half Bad: The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself follows Nathan Byrne on his journey to defy (or fulfill) a prophecy that has governed his life. His father, Marcus Edge, is considered the evillest witch in England and the Hunters are convinced Nathan will be the linchpin in their goal to defeat him. At first.
Impressive visuals, skillful acting, compelling story; what more could one ask for? The trouble is this is an adaptation and knowing that there’s a version of this story that I enjoy more held this one back. From the relationships and how they’re developed, to Nathan himself as a character, there are little changes that deprive Half Bad of its original charm. Some changes are for visual flair while others make the story more mainstream and (honestly?) weaker. Still, if you enjoy teen fantasy series and can handle gore, this might just be the one for you.
