Cordelia Koenig, a high school senior in Alaska is working on a senior project focusing on her family genealogy. She partners not with her best friend but with a boy who is known to be trouble, Kodak Jones. The project reveals a truth that Cordelia’s mother has been hiding since she was born. Cordelia must now come to terms with what this project has uncovered and starts an investigation of her own. This leads her to Seattle for a poetry competition with Kodak and her classmates, but she discovers much more while she is there.
A quick read, something that will keep you entertained throughout. Fans of The Name She Gave Me by Betty Culley (2022) might also enjoy The Truth Project. I believe the book would be better with more details and character development. The tension between Cordelia and her mother was raw and emotional. The magnitude of the secret her mother kept was huge and would impact anyone in a negative way.
