This book is inspired by the folklore tale A Thousand and One Nights. Each night brings a new marriage for the Caliph of Khorasan, and each dawn his new bride is executed. No one in the kingdom knows why this is happening. Bravely, Shahrzad volunteers to marry the Caliph but has a secret plan to survive the dawn. Through the power of stories, she survives the dawn, and continues to build trust with the Caliph. Only to find out that the Caliph is not as evil as she once thought. As Shahrzad continues to build her relationship with the Caliph, little does she know her family is attempting to rescue her.
The Wrath & The Dawn is very similar to The Storytellers Daughter by Cameron Dokey (2002) and A Thousand Nights by E.K. Johnston (2015).
I would have liked there to be even more stories each night, the detail within the stories told by Shahrzad were wonderful. I felt like the ending was rushed and cut short for there to be a sequel. Shahrzad is a strong main character, but the end of the story made it feel like she had no voice or control.
