In Spiritfarer, players take on the role of a master of a barge ship which transitions people to the afterlife. You play a teenager in charge of building and fixing your ship and responding to the needs of your passengers as they near the end of their lives.
Despite its serious premise, this game is very wholesome and sweet. The story progresses slowly, with lots of breaks for fishing and intermittent profound wisdom from your passengers. The animation is hand drawn, and your adorable cat follows you everywhere you go, which is a definite plus.
I recommend this game for ages 14 and up, as it deals with some mature themes. Highly recommended for anyone who plays video games to rest and relax, or for anyone looking for guidance as they process the grief of loss.
