Content Warning: This novel explores suicidal ideation and suicide, bullying, mental health, and sexual assault.
A shoebox of audio tapes is left at Clay Jensen’s door. When he begins listening, he hears Hannah’s voice. Hannah, his classmate and crush, committed suicide two weeks earlier and her tapes reveal thirteen reasons why—one of which is Clay Jensen.
Highly controversial, this novel appeals to teens to help them better understand difficult topics that teens may encounter, like bullying, depression, sexual assault, and suicide. It's too late for Hannah to get help, but it’s not too late for Clay to learn how his actions affect others.
