Matthias is a young mouse who lives in Redwall Abbey. He dreams of being like Martin the Warrior. Redwall Abbey is besieged by Cluny the Scourge. Matthias helps out by seeking the location of Martin’s legendary sword. Will Redwall survive the siege?

The voices of the narrator and characters perfectly compliment the music and sound effects to create a rich and elevated experience that the text alone cannot provide. For such rich worldbuilding, there were faults such as hinting of the existence of humans, but then redacting that later.

The works of Beatrix Potter also paints a non-magical world of anthropomorphic animals (see our review of the Peter Rabbit series here). However, Potter does not focus on worldbuilding as much leaving questions of animals as second-class citizens up in the air.

A high fantasy atmosphere, but without magic and witchcraft; it’s more of a Medieval Western European inspired fiction.
