Looking for Alaska is a coming-of-age book centered around Miles Halter, aka Pudge’s, new adventures at boarding school in Alabama. This heartbreakingly hopeful tale follows Miles and his friends as they learn about themselves, and each other. After a night of drinking, Alaska gets into an accident, and Pudge and his friends grapple with the reality of losing a friend.
This novel is a great read for any young adult, especially those looking to make sense of their surroundings. Although the lead is male, the voice in this book makes it enjoyable for every reader. This book has some dark themes, and deals with teen drinking, drugs, and conversations of suicide, which can be difficult for some readers. With a trigger warning, this book is fantastic for YA readers.
