Citation: Swift, T. (2022). Midnights [Album]. Republic Records.
Taylor Swift has long been an icon of teen culture since she came on the scene with her first album in 2006. Midnights is an album that combines all the best aspects of her previous eras with hints of folk, pop, electropop and synth pop. The lyrics tackle issues that are relatable to teens such as insecurity and anxiety. The songs in this album have similarities to Taylor’s previous work including Folklore and Reputation, although it is very different from her country roots.
Young and older teens would enjoy this album, along with their parents and older siblings who may have grown up listening to Taylor. A limitation to note is that this album is a bit more explicit than some of her older work and therefore younger teens should discuss with their parents whether or not they should listen. Overall, this is a great album that teens may be relistening to for years to come.
