Charlie Hope works at his mother’s hotel, spending his time as an attendant for a spoiled child star and playing chess with an elderly resident. When the resident dies of a fall, Charlie realizes foul play may be involved.

The book has similarities to many YA mysteries across mediums, something it pokes fun at throughout. Its accessible language and quick pace can help the book find an audience with younger readers and readers looking for a mystery that is easy to follow. At just over 100 pages, many readers may find the book too short, not helped by its relatively quick pace.

Lekich tells a fast paced, easy to follow mystery with enough intrigue and characterization to make it feel fun and enjoyable for readers.
