Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets are the first two of seven books in the Harry Potter fantasy series. The books follow the story of an orphan, Harry, as he learns he is a wizard who comes from a powerful magical family and follows him through his life from eleven-years-old when the story takes place, until he graduates from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry seven years later.
Rowling creates an expansive world with complex and engaging characters, light humour and heavy storylines surrounding a universe of magic that immerses the reader. The writing is simple yet compelling, and the stories, characters and histories, and magical world build deeper and heavier with each book as Harry gets older.
In addition to the magical world, the books are about finding yourself and your values, coming to terms with your history, bravery and fighting for what you believe is right. The Harry Potter series is a true classic that children, teens, and adults can easily find a love for, though it is worth noting the revelation of the author’s problematic viewpoints and bigotry which may make some readers want to steer clear of this series.
